Discover why Washington D.C. is a great place for a family vacation.
  • Georgetown and Northwest

Georgetown

There is no metro stop in this area so the best way to get here is by cab.

Georgetown Cupcake

The super popular Georgetown Cupcake is now super famous after the success of their reality show on TLC. The cupcakes are delicious, but you’ll have to decide if they are worth the wait as the line to the door often stretches up the block. You can pre-order cupcakes 24 hours in advance and skip the line or they have a second location in Bethesda, MD where the lines are significantly shorter.

Johnny Rockets

  • Waiter Service

Another chain, think ole’ time soda shop. This would be a great place to pick up a burger and shake for lunch or dinner.

Clyde’s

  • Waiter Service

Another good spot for lunch or dinner with a large menu that includes plenty of choices for the entire family.

Old Glory

  • Waiter Service

BBQ and great cornbread. There was a time I went here once a week. Is your favorite NC vinegar based BBQ sauce or traditional Texas brisket? They have it all for lunch and dinner.

Daily Grill

  • Waiter Service

Daily Grill is also a chain so you may have heard of it before. It is a bit more formal with steaks and grilled fish, but still fine for kids and would be good for lunch or dinner.

Chipotle

  • Counter Service

You may have picked up that my family loves a good mexican meal, but really who doesn’t? This is another one of our go to spots for a casual lunch or dinner.

Peacock Cafe

  • Waiter Service

Another great spot of lunch or dinner with a kids menu and lots to choose from on the regular menu too. I love their salads.

Northwest

2Amys

  • Waiter Service

Think authentic italian brick oven pizza. This is a popular family spot and you’ll find there is often a long line. Get there early for a better chance at getting a seat right away. You may find lunch is also a better time to go if you want to avoid a wait.

Cactus Cantina

  • Waiter Service

If you’re there on a Friday evening chances are we’re there too. Great mexican food and delicious frozen margaritas plus plenty of indoor and outdoor seating make this a popular spot from lunch through to dinner.

Surfside

  • Counter Service

Another great mexican spot – try the fish tacos – with a fun rooftop deck.  Perfect for lunch or dinner. Visit their website and you’ll see there are lots of other restaurants around the city owned by this group.

Jetties

  • Counter Service

Jetties is another one of our neighborhood favorites. Sometimes the simple stuff can be so good, a PB&J (the addition of potato chips are a personal choice), good lemonade and a sunny spot to sit outside. Stop in one for one of their yummy sandwiches, salads or a cupcake.
